In an era defined by one-hit wonder pop artists and press-play DJ's, there are still a certain few striving to make a real difference in the music industry; and no more so than Essex/London lads The Recoupes.

Inspired by the likes of The Libertines and Catfish & the Bottlemen, they aim to emulate Van McCann's men's meteoric rise and with the forthcoming release of their new EP, 'Anna', on the 9th July; the next step on the ladder is within reach. Anna is a four-track EP, consisting of title track 'Anna', 'Drunk Messages', 'Please Don't' and 'Complications'. You may be forgiven for thinking "oh no, not another bunch of Courteeners wannabee's" when you hear the titles of these tracks (and we can't blame you for that), but the music defining them is of its own credibility. Upbeat, catchy and offering a real sense of maturity for a quartet of 18 year olds; the future is looking blindingly bright for The Recoupes.

We managed to catch a word with the four-piece, and you can read all of what they had to say to us below.

Who are The Recoupes?

We are an indie rock band from Essex/London consisting of four 18 year olds, we've been together for around 4/5 years after meeting at school, and in the last year have played at the likes of O2 Islington, Dublin Castle and The Goodship. After releasing our first EP 'Here You Go' mid December last year and gaining some radio airplay we felt it was right to put this one out now to kick-start us finishing school and being able to focus on the band. In the band we've got; Louie Cameron on bass, Alan Li on vocals and guitar, Michael Niner on drums and Oli Zanetti on lead guitar.

How would you describe your sound?

It's difficult to describe sound as a whole but we feel it connects with people who like early Arctic Monkeys, Catfish and the Bottlemen. We each take pride in our own instruments and try to compliment each other when playing which helps our songs glue together in a way and makes us very tight live, ultimately with our sound its what sounds good to us before anything. Having and indie rock sound mix with danceable riffs making quite an uplifting sound and gives our live shows a very good feel.

You're releasing your new EP, 'Anna', on the 9th July, what can we expect?

We've taken a lot more time with the recording process of this EP compared to our first one 'Here You Go' and we feel this shows through the songs and how they came out with catchy riffs, driving bass lines and interesting and creative drum beats complimenting the guitar riffs. We also feel the lyrics are quite relatable for example the opening track Drunk Messages being about those drunk messages you send then read the next morning. We're excited about this one and feel it's a really danceable song with each of us creating quite interesting riffs that intertwine between each other nicely. The last track Complications we haven't shown anyone yet, and although it will be getting some radio play we're excited to see how people react to it when they hear it!

Who are your biggest influences and inspirations?

We take inspiration from everywhere really, separately and collectively, but together we'd say the likes of Catfish and the Bottlemen, The Libertines, The Strokes early Arctic Monkeys and Circa Waves among a lot more.

What's the aim?

We want to start to build a larger following, play more shows, carry on writing songs that we're proud of people hearing and still carry on enjoying as much as we always have. Ultimately at this point we want to start making opportunities for ourselves to open for bigger bands and get the most out of what we can for the band and hopefully make it what we do.

What's next for The Recoupes?

We've just finished school (sixth form) this year so want to focus more on the band now, and take this opportunity to play shows in wider areas to gain a bigger following so keep an eye out for that, to keep writing songs that we're proud of and have more and more people listening to them.
