RADAR: John Parry
John Parry is the latest breakthrough act that we strongly suggest you keep an eye (and an ear) on. The 19 year-old singer/songwriter from London, inspired by the likes of Jamie T and Ben Howard, has just dropped his new single 'Love Drunk Punch'. We managed to catch a word with Parry about the track and future plans.
Who is John Parry?
A singer-songwriter from East London with a crap tattoo!
How would you describe your sound?
Well, in the past it resembled that of many other acts in my genre, but through the months and years I've been exposed to different sounds and experiences. Now it's edging to a more "aggressive" style that I am extremely proud of and I think is a great alternative to people moaning about their relationships.
How has the response been so far to your new single 'Love Drunk Punch'?
It's been amazing! I would usually get a lot of people viewing it but not really engaging and saying anything, but with this people seem to be really getting behind it!
Who are your biggest influences and inspirations?
How can it not be Jamie T, The Streets and Ben Howard. I am listening to dark dance music a lot more now, produced by people with very obscure, hard to pronounce names, who are giving me inspiration to give my music life, which is evident in Love Drunk Punch.
What's the aim?
At the moment I really want to get a support slot in a tour! Do you know anyone who could sort me out?
What's next for John Parry?
I've got a gig at The Social in London on the 10th of August so everything is going into that, but also new content. I have a lot of songs that need releasing and if they aren’t, I will release them under the name of the ‘Pearly King singer-songwriter' as discussed in The Independent.
