RADAR: Coastgaard
I caught a word with one of my favourite new bands not so long back, Coastgaard. Based in Brooklyn, this beautifully raw sounding quartet have recently dropped their second album 'Devil On The Balcony' and were up for a quick chat about it as well as what's to come.
Who are Coastgaard?
We're three New Yorkers and an Italian sending out some nice coastal vibes via guitar, drums, bass and vocals.
How would you describe your sound?
Lots of early sixties style pop styles mixed with some Alt 90's guitar stuff. Kind of groovy beach rock. You can rock out to it or chill out to it, in equal measure.
You released your second album 'Devil On The Balcony' earlier this year, how has the response been?
Really positive. Everywhere we go we've gotten a really warm reception with the tunes. Our label, eOne Records gave us full artistic control. We couldn't be happier with that.
Who are your biggest influences and inspirations?
Too many to list one by one, especially with Devil On The Balcony. But if you like stuff like the Beach Boys and The Animals or somewhat more recent bands like The Shins and Wilco, you'll probably dig us.
What's the aim?
To continue to write and record music we want to listen to ourselves and share it with others who'll enjoy it too. And also world domination... ummm, I mean world peace!
What's next for Coastgaard?
Continue to tour when we can, and write another record!
