RADAR: Prism Tats

I managed to catch a word with Prism Tats not so long back, otherwise known as Garett van der Spek, about his blossoming new solo project. Following the release of his self titled debut album earlier this year, we strongly advise you prepare yourself to hear more of this name in the near future.

Who is Prism Tats?

Prism Tats is me, Garett van der Spek. A solo project that I am now performing live as a 3 piece band.

How would you describe your sound?

Rock 'n roll post punk pop.

You released your self titled debut album 'Prism Tats' earlier this year, how has the response been so far?

We just got home from a 6 week US/Canada tour and the response was great. We've also had a fair amount of positive press in Australia and Europe since the release in April which is very encouraging.

Who are your biggest influences and inspirations?

The Kinks, John Lennon, David Bowie, Blur, The Stooges to name a few.

Have you any plans in the near future to play in the UK?

I am really hoping after another US tour this fall we'll be able to get over to the UK for some shows. Fingers crossed.

What's your aim?

To make music that makes people feel good

What's next for Prism Tats?

Get in a few more tours here in the US and in Europe before I start on a new record.
