RADAR: SON
SON are a recently re-grouped duo that combine lo-fi electro-pop with the indie and alternative via the medium of an epic, smooth and chilled mix. The two-piece consisting of Daniel White and Ryan Bunney may currently be resigned to their bedrooms but a prosperous future awaits, and we spoke with them about what they aim to achieve.
Who are SON?
SON are a bedroom recording duo that consists of myself (Daniel White) and Ryan Bunney. The two of us are both seventeen years old and create music that combines what we love from electronic and alternative music.
Who are your biggest influences and inspirations?
We are not inspired by certain artists or genres as such, but are inspired by different ideas and different musical concepts, whether its a chord progression, a certain sound or a particular lyric. However we do get inspired by who we are listening to at the current time, as we are constantly discovering new music to listen to from a wide variety of genres. The two of us share a very similar taste in music which naturally plays a part in our sound.
How has the response been so far to your latest track 'Warm'?
So far the response has been positive. Finishing and putting out a song like Warm is a big deal to us, although it might not mean a lot to others, so it's nice receiving positive feedback. We highly appreciate the shared support, especially from those who we value the opinion of. Hearing peoples thoughts on a track like Warm only makes us excited to finish our new material. It's good fun.
How would you describe your sound?
Our sound is a blend of our favourite things from electronic and alternative music. We've always been a fan of bass and rhythmic drums which we heavily incorporate into our sound and additionally we're fans of atmospheric music, which is another key element within our tracks. I believe that due to the fact that we are not singers, we have approached vocals in a natural way which has caused them to have a relaxed feel. Our sound also consists of smooth melodic guitar that adds to the overall groove of our tracks.
What's the aim?
The aim is to explore different sounds and expand our love for music. We want to continue learning about music in general and develop as both musicians and producers. We will continue to learn more about our own sound and will keep making music that we love and like hearing.
What's next for SON?
We are excited to keep sharing new material that we are constantly working on. We plan to form our live set list that we hope to be gigging soon.
